Why Joy is not Shallow

I listen to you, and you say joy is shallow.
I have a completely different outlook on that.
Sadness is so easy in this world---
Melancholy might elevate high feelings of exultation,
But joy is not shallow.
You say, "Hank Williams Sr."
Well, I say, "Jimmy Durante."
Jimmy sings with joy
And every word he sings is deeper
Than the deepest well.
I like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams;---
But, I like Elvis Presley and The Four Seasons.
For, Motown is an expression of joy
Which to have true joy is more brave
Than a profound sadness.
