My Conversion Poem

Christ, what are you but a Name,
If we do not keep your commands?
The starving poor in Africa and India and China and South America
Who live miserable lives, more miserable than me---
My life is Paradise compared to theirs---
Do they go straight to hell when they die without Jesus?
The woman who shields children with love
While they are being killed by terrorists
Does she go to hell?
Hitler, if he had a moment of confession
Or Stalin or Mao or Pot Poi,
Do they go to heaven when they confess you?
I realize I lived a miserable life...
It's true. I don't believe Karma, because I'd be overburdened
Being rich and influenced by demons of Media.
But, I cannot say they go to hell
Or they go to heaven.
It freaks to the very bones that I cannot believe Hitler is in heaven
And a Hindu martyr, saving the lives of Children, is in hell.
Perhaps the actual Gospel was to do good while you could
Through Christ's strength, and not simply to call upon a name
In idle worship, in idle blasphemy, in idle talk.
You who do Christ's commandments, seem to be who He loves.
A name can save, if you love Him, keep His commandments.
And only that Name will save.
