The Modern Schopenhauer

He begins with romantic reveries
Dreamily and steamily, and sex and breasts.

Then, he scars his conscience, and sees his sin
And moodily meditates on the conspiracies of the world.

Then he finds poetry, and literature, and begins to
Grasp at notes of knowledge, pure and undefiled.

Then he dives deep into his religion, seeing it is 100% true
And finds the evidence, and the reason for his faith.

Next, does he find love, and open up and lose his neurotic ways?
Or does he grow kind, and loving, and heartbroken at dashed hopes?

Let not his love grow cold, or his heart bitter, my LORD;
Let Youth burgeon once again. Let him see the breasts of mercy.
